Why families choose Evolve for chemistry
Stoichiometry and the hard stuff
Mole calculations, limiting reagents, percent yield — stoichiometry is where most chemistry students lose marks. Our tutors teach the logic behind each step so students can work through any variation of these problems, not just the ones they've seen before.
Tutors with chemistry and science backgrounds
Our chemistry tutors come from programs like chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and health sciences at UofT, Waterloo, McMaster, and other top Canadian universities. They understand the subject at a level that lets them explain it clearly.
From basics to organic chemistry
We cover the full range — from matter and mixtures in elementary school through stoichiometry, electrochemistry, equilibrium, and organic chemistry in Grade 12. Whatever unit your child is on, we have it covered.
Lab reports and written work
Chemistry labs involve careful data recording, calculations, and written analysis. Our tutors help students understand what a strong lab report looks like and how to present their findings accurately and clearly.
Common questions about chemistry tutoring
What chemistry courses do you cover?
We cover the chemistry units in Grade 9 (SNC1W) and Grade 10 (SNC2D / SNC2P), as well as the dedicated chemistry courses in Grade 11 (SCH3U and SCH3C) and Grade 12 (SCH4U and SCH4C). We also support elementary students with matter, materials, and basic chemistry concepts.
Where do most students struggle in chemistry?
Stoichiometry is by far the most common stumbling block — mole calculations, limiting reagents, and percent yield trip up a huge number of students. Naming compounds and balancing equations are close behind. These are all things that click quickly with a tutor who can walk through the logic step by step.
Can you help with SCH4U specifically?
Yes. SCH4U is one of the hardest Grade 12 courses in Ontario and is required for most university science and health programs. It covers organic chemistry, electrochemistry, and equilibrium at a level that demands real conceptual understanding, not just formula memorization. Our tutors know the course well.
Do you help with chemistry lab reports?
Yes. Lab reports are a significant part of chemistry grades and many students lose marks on the written analysis rather than the experiment itself. Our tutors help with understanding what each section requires, how to interpret results, and how to write conclusions that address the purpose of the lab.
My child is in SCH3U and finding it overwhelming. What should we do?
Start sooner rather than later. SCH3U introduces a lot of new vocabulary and abstract concepts quickly, and students who fall behind in the first unit tend to struggle for the rest of the semester. A few sessions early on to lock in the foundations makes the whole course more manageable.
Can you help with organic chemistry?
Yes. Organic chemistry is a major component of SCH4U and one of the topics students find hardest to self-study. Our tutors break down functional groups, naming conventions, and reaction types in a way that builds a clear mental model rather than a list of things to memorize.
