Common questions about English tutoring
What grade levels do you cover for English?
We tutor English from Grade 1 through Grade 12, including ENG4U (English for university) and EWC4U (The Writer's Craft). Whether your child needs help with reading comprehension in Grade 3 or a polished essay for a Grade 12 summative, we have the right tutor.
Can you help with essay writing specifically?
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons families come to us. Our tutors work through the full essay process: understanding the prompt, building a thesis, structuring arguments, writing body paragraphs, and editing for clarity and flow. We don't just fix grammar — we help students learn to write better.
Do you help with university application essays?
Yes. We work with Grade 11 and 12 students on university supplemental essays and personal statements for Canadian and U.S. schools. These essays carry a lot of weight and benefit from a strong outside reader who can give honest, detailed feedback.
My child struggles with reading comprehension. Can you help?
Absolutely. For younger students in Grade 1 through 8, reading comprehension is one of the most important skills to build early. Our tutors work on identifying main ideas, making inferences, understanding vocabulary in context, and responding to texts in writing.
Can you help with ENG4U and literary analysis?
Yes. ENG4U is the most demanding English course in the Ontario curriculum and is required for most university programs. Our tutors are skilled at literary analysis, helping students build arguments around theme, character, structure, and authorial intent.
What if my child has dyslexia or a learning difference?
Our tutors are patient and experienced working with students who learn differently. Sessions are fully 1-on-1, so the tutor adjusts the pace, approach, and materials entirely around your child. There's no pressure to keep up with a group.
